Will just keep posting this over and over:

Pick the team where your child and you like the coach and players better. Where practices are more convenient (time and location). Where your child will be developed.

Please ignore the imagined status.

only go to travel if your child can actually compete at a high level. if not, just stay with rec and enjoy!!! rec is the best. less crazy people and more fun environment for little kids.

Maybe, though I just spoke to a parent moving their kid from rec because the kid got tired of 1/3 of the team doing cartwheels instead of practicing

His players develop very quickly and his 2014 team is undefeated to BSC 1 (since you are looking between the 2 clubs) and went from playing NCSL to top flight EDP. But beyond game scores of 10 yo - I think next year’s 2015s are very excited about having him take on the first team. Would check them out.

And considering they decided to mostly not promote any of their II team players in order to bring in kids from other clubs, there is some space on the I team for new incoming players.

This universal. Only way to move up is often to jump clubs.

Interesting enough is that they were having trouble recruiting last year... I think Bethesda moved more kids up

MSI has rebuilt its travel program the past couple years and some of their teams are doing quite well. Also less expensive and year-round practice on turf at Julius West.

I’d consider them as well. And agree with everyone saying consider practice locations and consistency. Bethesda and Potomac are well known for practicing all over the place and constantly changing dates and times.
