Here is a bunch of people's before and afters with braces. None of them look uncanny to me -- they almost universally look better, or they look the same just with straighter teeth. With a lot of the kids you can tell they underwent puberty changes during their braces so some of them have more dramatic changes in appearance, but I think a lot of it has nothing to do with the braces themselves. It's normal for a a kid's face to mature a lot between age 10 and age 16.

Also, "uncanny valley": "The "uncanny valley" is a psychological phenomenon where something that is almost, but not quite, human, triggers a sense of unease or revulsion in humans."

Please people, stop dragging your everyday stupid into a public space like DCUM. Uncanny is a great word for this. Props to OP.

NP and I am also confused.

Colin Jost's smile looks normal to me. He doesn't have veneers like a lot of Hollywood people so his teeth look straight but not fake. It's not the best smile in the world, but it's fine.

My kid is 7 and will need braces so I'm really trying to figure out what you mean. I had braces but got them off early so my incisors are still a little turned in but I actually like how it looks because it's symmetrical but keeps my teeth from looking too uniform.

I’m not the same as those people, but I also am having a hard time envisioning what is a good example of post braces from years ago. She says that it’s a newer problem so what is a good example of good results?

Jost has big weird teeth, but I just assumed it was his smile not a braces issue
