I remember hearing this at the grocery store as a kid and never thought much of it until recently I saw the MUSIC VIDEO! If you haven't seen this watch it now! The lead singer is the world's creepiest middle aged man riding on a magic carpet to the teddy bear-bedecked bedroom of a girl who looks about 13. It makes my skin crawl.

When the female sings, “Say, what’s in this drink?” it hits differently than when it was written. It sounds very sinister now, a la Bill Cosby.
However, the rest of the song is clearly a playful dance between the two parts because she wants to stay as much as the he wants her to, but she knows she’s supposed to be a good girl who wouldn’t entertain the thought of spending the night with her date, so she pretends he’s talked her into what she wanted all along.

Yeah this song was like background grocery store music / middle age radio music that I remember being on through the 90s. Background of my growing up.
Not that I ever liked it, but I knew the chorus. And I didn’t know the first lines until this year!!
