Teacher here, and teens lie a lot, too. It's not just the "bad" kids. Often, their parents aren't aware. It's something teachers learn to work with and around.

I don't think they are malicious, but they don't know what they don't know.

I don't trust most people, TBH. I don't think most people are bad nor untrustworthy but to me, trust is the most important part of a relationship. And that has to be earned.

Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of people. Most people, really. But for me to really, truly trust you, I have to know you very well. And once trust is broken, I may forgive you and even grow to like you again but I will never feel totally safe in the friendship. Because if I can't trust you, I don't really need more than a surface level relationship with you.

Definitely. I've had too many bad experiences younger and it sucked the kindness out of me when it comes to these situations.

Scammers mostly, creepy men too. Now I don't engage at all to find out. I was in Montreal recently and this 50ish yo random man tried to stop me as I was walking with my kids asking if I speak French (I do). Why would he single me out of all people on a very busy street? It was very odd and I pretended I could not hear him. Because I am a short, petite harmless-looking woman and seem kind (which I am, but not to strangers in this context anymore), I have to protect myself more and watch out.
