I'd like to think that. She is a new nanny so it is hard to tell. It's not just really about sun protection, it's about a fundamental lack of care and thoughtfulness. She is putting herself before the baby.


If you don’t know if she stepped away for a moment, then how do you know it was 15 minutes?

What was the purpose of the photo?

Is the nanny your employee or do you know the parents and saw it? If the latter, I would want to be told, but in a way that makes it clear the person telling me will understand that I get to do what I want with the information.


My employee. She sent me a video of her doing this. (The video was from her perspective of her in the shade, and showed the baby in the stroller in the line.) DH says to give her the benefit of the doubt and that maybe she just sent me the video to show that there was a line.


Team DH. You weren’t there.

Just say "Hey, in the future please keep the baby out of the sun as much as possible. If it's not possible, please put the sunshade up and put sunscreen on her."

I would explain that babies and the elderly do not regulate their body temperature as well as health older children and adults, and that even a short exposure to heat and sun could be fatal for your baby. Instruct her to always be aware of heat, sun exposure, and also, very chilly air conditioning (like don't place baby right in front of a vent of cold air). And if your nanny drives your baby anywhere, insist that she should NEVER leave the baby in the car without her for any length of time, and watch that sun doesn't fall on the baby's side of the car for too long.

70s? I would not consider that a problem unless the baby seemed uncomfortable. I have hot flashes and I am always hotter than everyone else. If Im not having flaked, I love the feel of the sun on my skin. I know this about myself and would not assume that my comfort = same as everyone else.

If she had been in line with the baby, it would have been fine, so the temp is not a problem except you saw she was in the shade.

I think you are overthinking this particular incident

Nanny sent her a video of the line.

Back when I had nannies I think they would have been irritated on some level if I expected things like a video of the line. Pictures of fun things they were doing? Sure. Proof there was a line at the library? A little weird.

I walk on a trail full of nannies. They spend their time on the phone or chatting with each other. Babies are left in sun, wind, whatever. They pay no attention to baby. Don't talk to baby. If you think nannies are anything nurturing etc. check specifics of yours.

Never mind the line. I see it all the time done by nannies, but also parents, mostly dads.
Talk to her about staying out of direct sun as much as possible.
