Oh well.
Loss for the consumer. Pay more for your car because of third party model. The problem in America is the chokehold that the status quo has. On lots of things. We will be under China's thumb soon enough.

I guess we've got a "both sides" situation. What other companies will NY state restrict from doing business (for purely political reasons)? This isn't the right way to play. Innovative business models to save money are not welcome in NY state.

Actually, sounds like they have only Tesla an examption so they are just putting Tesla in the same category as other manufacturers. This seems reasonable (why would Tesla have an exemption in the first place?). I mean, you can reasonably argue whether it’s a good rule or not, but it doesn’t seem wrong to treat Tesla like everyone else.

Rivian also comes under this law. Any EV car company would come under this. So nobody will start an EV car company.
It's my understanding that the law was always there, just that individual companies can be granted waivers. In this case, only Tesla's waiver will be revoked, not Rivian's.
And that is not discriminatory? How is that?

OP here. I vote Democratic, but this is too much government interference in individual choice and freedom. WTF. Do we want cheaper cars or not?
We have to balance many competing things - e.g., inexpensive prices for goods + business opportunities for Americans + reasonable working conditions & pay.
One could argue that the desire for cheap prices at the expense of American jobs heavily contributed to the loss of manufacturing, which contributed to the anger and resentment that middle America has, which brought us MAGA.[/quote]
One could argue that and yes, that is a MAGA argument, but NY is led by a Democratic governor. Also it is not typically Republicans who want to dismantle free trade. Just give it a while and people will realize why they are paying more for things. And Democrats won't have clean hands in the process (especially if they keep taking away competitive business models). Competitive business models help America.

So is having Trump as POTUS.
Again, oh well.
Doesn't help for Democrats to double down.
