Not familiar with the egg rolls OP is referring to, but few places seem to serve the old fashioned kinds of egg rolls that were ubiquitous when I was a kid. It's all thin spring rolls these days and I don't think I've seen the big fat thicker egg rolls of the 1980s Cantonese/Hunan style restaurants at H-Mart or other Asian supermarkets.
