Subject: Baby fell off the couch
My 4 months old got catapulted out of his carseat stroller - he was unbuckled as i was opening the apartment door and I hung the heavy diaper bag on the handle to grab the keys - and off he went! Totally fine, he actually laughed and I think i might have cried.

I was getting ready for a dinner party. Kid had just started crawling. Wife was in the shower. I turned for a second to check the stove and the kid crawled 15 feet in a nanosecond and rolled down the stairs (about 7 steps to a landing). She was fine, but we had a panicked call to our pediatrician who assured us of their resilience. We had to watch for a few signs which didn't happen and within two minutes she was happy as could be. She's 9 now and I still cringe.

One of my kids’ ped told us that one of the signs of trouble after a fall is failure to be woken up. So for the next 20 years, we have always made sure to wake up the kids (if they had fallen and hit their heads) for a quick trip to the bathroom.
Thank goodness they woke up every time although begrudgingly. DS did suffer a concussion at college. He made sure his roommate woke him up in the middle of the night just to be sure.

My son got a head injury at the park and cracked his skull. Aside from crying for 60 seconds, he acted totally fine so no one thought anything about it until we did a CT due to severe bruising several days later. Point is - you never know. Most falls don’t result in anything but some do, and some are severe even from just a small fall. There will be signs though, even if no concussion. Google them and keep an eye on her.

Subject: Baby fell off the couch
My baby rolled off the couch when he was 2 weeks old. Was literally in the fold of couch and I walked away and he’d spun all the way off onto the hardwood floor. I still don’t know how it was possible because he was swaddled. I was very upset and DH was relieved because it happened on my watch. We didn’t take him to the doctor and he was fine. 20+ years later we still joke about it.

I was worried because he likes to needle and poke the bear. He loves to toss her in the air and flip her around. He does this one move where she does a 360 spin in the air. It makes me so nervous and I always say don't drop her so I can just imagine him saying well you're the only one to drop her so far. And I just feel so terrible already. But he was nice hopefully I'll remember that I'm not perfect and not police him so much and hopefully he won't toss it back at me.
I'm still watching the monitor like a hawk but she's okay. Thank you to everyone sharing your stories!! It makes me feel not so alone and look at all these big kids crushing it out there!
OP you are clearly crying out for help. You wouldn't tell us this stuff about your husband if you weren't. I hope you get the help you need - consider marriage counseling, but if you are being abused, get out.

Almost everyone has had a baby roll off a sofa or a bed or had the baby tumble out of a bouncer b/c they weren't buckled in, had their sitting up kid tumble sideways onto a hard floor, that sort of thing. So many more people than will ever admit it to you.
You are absolutely not alone, happens all the time. Babies are super resilient. Keep an eye out for any unusual behavior, but I'm sure she's fine.

If she has stopped crying that quickly and is happy, she is OK. sustained crying/ inability to console, or lethargy/change in behavior is cause for concern and sign of an injury. You are not the first mom to have had this happen. It is surprisingly common, but of course no one is going to post that as their update on social media. However, as others have suggested, you could call your ped for reassurance.

My brother actually had a bad fall at that age and broke his arm (bad 70s high chairs, he slipped out) and he's fine today.

My baby fell down the stairs. 15 years later (yes, at age 15) he scored 1580 on his first SAT. Only prep was 1 practice exam.

Your baby is totally fine. You don't need to call the doctor or watch for head injury. Her skull is fully closed around the brain. You can let her out of your lap.
