Telluride. But I am always looking for an escape from the DC weather in the summer. It would not make sense for me to go to somewhere that is just as hot and humid. I would enjoy the change of being in cooler weather and with mountains. You can easily take some weekend trips to the beach if you want your kids to have that experience while living in the DMV. Colorado is bigger mountains, scenic in a way that is harder to drive to.

I’m another poster who grew up going to Seaside back when it was newly established. It was a really special place in the 80s and 90s before it became overcrowded. We then switched to Rosemary Beach, which was also a special place before it became overcrowded. We stopped our 30A tradition two years ago- it’s lost its appeal. I would choose Telluride. There will be more longer term visitors and I would guess more camps to put your kids in. And best of all, you can go to the grocery and restaurants without waiting hour and dealing with wall-to-wall people.
