(7 out of 10 people neglect to follow an in-person interview with an email or hand-written note to THANK the interviewer(s) and ASK for the job.) if someone else were just as qualified yet appeared more eager to accept an offer, they may opt to go with this person.
At any rate—it doesn’t hurt to follow up now. At worst, you find out they went with someone else (which, if true, doesn’t change the outcome) At best, you learn new information that may include that you were the first interviewee and the process they have requires interviewing three candidates and the third just interviewed last Friday? You never know…
Hand-written note? Ask for the job? Maybe send a gift basket or home-baked cookies to stand out?
No one likes an arrogant candidate, but too eager may be even worse, not to mention undignified.
