I believe the use and knowledge of a washcloth is generational. I’m 55 but DD of silent generation Caucasian parents. My mom used washcloths and instilled this practice so much that I recall registering for entire towel sets on my bridal registry 30 years ago.

I think now only females are using washcloths based upon my adult DDs anecdata.

Washcloth v no washcloth is as controversial as use of top sheets!

Bar soap is a little more efficient. It comes in a paper box.

Packaging is better for the environment, too. Paper box is compostable. Plastic bottles of body wash not so much.

My problem with bar soap is that I have to throw out the last 20% because it breaks and becomes much harder to use. It's also impossible to scrub all of the deodorant off. I prefer a loofah and body wash.

The Japanese scrubbing cloths are life changing. I don't really get the soft/squishy washcloth thing personally, it just seems to push the water/soap around.

Here's what I wonder: I grew up in a home with a washer and dryer - why didn't I get taught to use washcloths in the shower by my parents? Is it because one of them grew up in an apartment where they had to pay to use the washing machine?

I was trained to use them as a child. As an adult I've abandoned the pointless practice and didn't impart this wisdom to my children either.

Same. My dermatologist told me to use soap only- not a washcloth- for my face and I adopted this practice for my body.

Is it better than using one of those bath pouf things? That's what I always use...

I use one of those scrubbers from the Korean spa. Might go softer alternating days now. You’ve made me question my washing faith. There is room for both. A united universal approach?
