Not sure why you blame Dems for the H1-B visa and OPT. They came into being during the George HW Bush administrations(s)*. There have been some efforts among Dem politicians to the reform H-1B visa program: For example, recently Ro Khanna (D-CA) highlighted instances where companies have used the program to replace American workers with lower-paid H-1B employees, calling for reforms to ensure fair wages and job opportunities for U.S. workers (https://www.newsweek.com/democrat-h1b-visa-abuse-2008554). And there was a bipartisan bill by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act of 2023 (S.979) which did not advance. If the Trump administration wants to reform it, it has some ability to do so and, the Republican-led congress can also try to pass reforms.
Regarding OPT, it's been around since 1992 and currently allows international students on F-1 student visas to work in the U.S. for up to 12 months post-graduation, with an additional 24-month extension for those in STEM fields. Students are supposed to get jobs in their field of study. Only about a quarter of foreign students actually apply for OPT. And, of those that do, many can't find jobs, so I'm not sure it's the big threat that you think it is. It doesn't automatically translate into a longer-term work visa. It's meant to be of short duration.
*H-1B visas were first implemented in 1990 as part of the Immigration Act of 1990 and signed into law by Republican president George H. W. Bush. Ditto Optional Practical Training (OPT), which was officially implemented on July 20, 1992, during his administration as well.
Show me a liberal bill that decreases or eliminates these positions. I have only ever seen "reforms" being tied to "increases". Oh, and some extra bureaucratic things for companies to comply with but have no real teeth.

And why are you so focused on Democrats? Last time I checked, the GOP controls the presidency, the House, and the Senate. Plus your president had a chance to do something about this the first time he was president. Why didn't he?
Trump has reduced and stopped H-1B's on occasion. His DOJ has prosecuted green card fraud and won against Meta and Facebook. So yeah, I have a right to be angry.
Biden tried to add AI to schedule A by executive order bypassing the requirement that they do PERM searches to prove there were no skilled Americans. Angry. I am so glad Trump revoked that. See a pattern here, Trump, Trump, Trump, oh and to some extent Republicans. You can go look at USCIS web cite and see how many LCA Biden's admin rubber stamped for software engineering.
So yeah, I have a right to be angry here. Talk about that reform some more. Show me where they decrease the numbers of H-1Bs.

IMO AI has made it easier for one coder to handle a large proportion of the "small stuff". It has also made it possible to do somethings that weren't possible before. Further, no one has been able to explain where we are rushing to get to with the implementation of AI into everything. All they say is more efficiency, more productivity, more ability to produce. The questions is for what, for who, to what end goal, and who will be able to pay for it?
I don't disagree. As was stated above, I don't think we didn't need to come this far this fast. This was driven by liberal's demand for cheap labor and immigration. We could have advanced the economy and technology more broadly and in a healthier way, if we hadn't focused on importing as many software engineers as we could. This is what you asked for. I am the best in the world at what I do, what can you say for yourself.

My son had an internship last summer where his task was checking AI generated code. Lots of the basic, low-level stuff is done by AI.
AI does the low-level stuff and then programmers crank out the harder code, according to him. He was bummed he didn't get to actually code very much during the internship.
