5C Schools as Hogwarts Houses:

1) Pomona = Griffindor
2) Harvey Mudd = Ravenclaw
3) Pitzer = Hufflepuff
4) CMC = Slytherin
5) Scripps = Beauxbatons (all-girls school from Goblet of fire)

So maybe that will help? Pitzer is seen as the most charitable, mission-oriented school, attracting very engaged and earnest students who want to do good things to impact their country, environment, and world. If that fits your DC I'd definitely visit. Pitzer also has by far the best dorms and food.

My DD is at Pomona and loves it! Good luck on your visit.

Griffindor: Brave, intelligent, strong integrity, Harry, Hermione & Ron's house
Ravenclaw: Smart & intelligent
Hufflepuff: Kind and caring, Cedric's House.
Slytherin: Ambitious, fame-driven, smart but can fall prey to evil, Voldemort & Malfoy's house.
Beauxbatons: All-girls school in France, Fleur's house.

Haha, love it! My HM kid agrees!

Tour all 3. We did and based on that applied to two. Very close but different vibes.

Pasadena is so much more fun than Claremont (which is really small). Also, you can tour Caltech and Oxy pretty easily from base of Pasadena too.

Casa 425 is best place to stay if you can get a room.

Folk Music Center is a cool shop to check out even if you are not into folk.

Eats: Union (can't lose), Packing House Wines (amazing! world class...), Mt. Baldy Lounge (if you are driving & fancy some hiking).

Kid at CMC - LOVES it, but each of the 5C work for different kids/interests. Mine happens to be an extrovert bro interested in econ/philosophy. As parents - very happy with the education, experience, campus culture (friendly, supportive, positive, ambitious) & seeing the outcomes.

And takes you to the not very convenient downtown Union Station, or Boyle Heights. Most tourists to Los Angeles stay 45 minutes plus away from this station on the west side.

When we visited schools in LA we stayed downtown and easily visited UCLA, USC, Claremont and Occidental. We Ubered to Occidental everything else was metro and train. It was clean, quick, not crowded, had a great app(showing times & options) and very convenient from our hotel to the metro. We walk out of our hotel and the metro was right outside. Beats the sh#t out of paying for a rental and hotel parking! By the second day we were going to lunch on the metro. Villa's Tacos Grand Central Market rock!

After the visits to the school we decamped by metro to Santa Monica for the last day of our trip.

I am a Pitzer mom and will be helping at admitted students day tomorrow. The five Cs (seven if you count grad schools) each have a very different vibe. Yes walk thru Pitzer. The landscaping is incredible. The students are very socially conscious. The school instills responsibility into its community. Big fan.
