There are many different types of masks doctors wear. We wear n95’s when we treat certain diseases. TB, in particular, requires the use of an n95, and due to the dismantling of USAID, it’s just a matter of time before we see surges of multi drug resistant TB here.
You can rationalize your brains out, but in a world that has experienced sars, mers and covid, and is always at risk for the next pandemic, canceling pandemic research, canceling medical research, stripping health departments to the bone, and canceling safety regulators is the height of stupidity. Not to mention, leaving the WHO. The U.S. strategy is, “Let’s just close our eyes and hope nothing bad will happen to us”

N95s (different from a standard surgical/droplet mask) are very effective if properly fitted. They are worn by healthcare workers depending on circumstance such as TB cases and rule outs, Measles cases/rule outs, COVID, Mpox, disseminated shingles (a more severe version), etc.
Surgeons may or may not wear an N95 vs regular surgical mask depending on whether an aerosol generating procedure is being performed and depending on the isolation status of the patient, per above.

Duh. Regular masks are so you don't accidently infect the person you are operating on. They also wash their hands before surgery.

Some are required to, and time choose to wear them out of respect for patients. FDA weighs in on some surgical masks.
I’ve been stocking up and looking at kn95 masks for future.

People with education and resources will use them to get the healthcare they need for their families. They always have and always will.
If something they need is unavailable in their home state or country they will go to a place where they can get it. Those without resources will bear the brunt of the backwards policies as they always have. That will include a lot of trump voters as well as others.
