FCPS teachers get paid once a month and receive a salary based on 10 months of work.
At one point you could choose to get that pay over 10 months or spread over 12 months. Then, about 12 or so years ago, holding summer pay became a costly endeavor, so everyone was forced to get their salary over 10 months (no checks in July or August). This was absolutely awful because it meant teachers worked 5 to 6 weeks without a paycheck until September 30th. This was especially bad for new teachers in their first year.
When they extended the school year to begin 2 weeks before Labor Day, they added back a check in August. Now it seems they are switching back to 12 months of checks. Crazy to keep changing the system. And it's one of the few school systems I've worked for that paid monthly. Many pay either every 2 weeks or twice a month.

Teachers have annual salaries. They are not hourly. This is misinformation.

People are easily confused. Most teacher sign contract and those contracts stipulate working conditions including working hours. My contracted hours are 7:30-2:35. I am not required to work before or after those hours or during my 45 minute lunch break. I receive a salary even though I work specified hours. If teachers were to switch from salaried to hourly employees, the school districts would go broke paying overtime.
