When white-soled loafers and "dress shoes" became popular for men, my DH got 2 pairs. But as time has passed, it feels like a clear sign that it's a middle aged man trying to seem relevant. DH has moved on from those, but I don't love the look, especially when you see a guy in a suit with white-soled "modern" wingtips.

Both men and women look good in crisp, white sneakers.

What about middle aged women? I like the clean crisp look on both men and women.

I'm from France, where men's style is very different from here. In Tokyo and Seoul, style is also very different. It seems to me as if American men are very afraid of being seen as soft and effeminate. Why the insecurity? Other men around the world wear it well.

Maybe the difference is that you need to be slim for elegant styles to work

Old guys wearing white sneakers isn't new or trendy/-it's what old men have worn since the days when sneakers didn't come in all different colors. I made fun on my teenagers when they started wearing them a few years ago because they were grandpa shoes to me.
