Strangers are NOT ALLOWED to just come up to you and do that.

Or they sincerely think your eyes are stunning. Some women just have amazing eyes. I’ve seen actresses who are objectively beautiful, but what makes them remarkable are their eyes.

People don’t grasp for things to compliment strangers on to make themselves look better, they’d generally rather ignore strangers. If someone compliments your eyes, consider that they’re doing it with sincere appreciation.

Absolutely love it, especially when the person just continues walking away - not like they are looking for anything. Just a very sweet genuine positive thing to say to somebody! Makes a big impact and I still remember those times.

But especially when it comes from a child not related to you…

Many,many strangers have told me I was beautiful. But I have had so many cruel, mean things said to me especially as a child that I really prefer to be invisible and not self conscious.

I like it, especially from other women. I was having lunch the other day and 3 20 something young women at the other table turned to me to compliment my eyes. "We just had to tell you, you have the most beautiful eyes. The color is gorgeous and your lashes are so long and amazing!" It was really nice!

I hated it when I was young. I worked as a waitress in high school and college. I hated it when older men complemented my appearance. So awkward. I hated it when my girlfriends got mad when I was hit on by a boy they liked. I had no confidence and didn’t want that kind of attention. I did not get comfortable with comments about my looks until I was mid thirties, after I was finally happily married. I’m glad that I’m old and unnoticed now.

It’s happened just twice in my life. I pulled up to a drive-thru window once and the young man said “wow, you are gorgeous”. Another time I was walking in parking lot and an older man looked at me and went “wow, you are so pretty my heart nearly stopped”. It made my day and still makes me feel good when I think about it!

It makes my day sometimes. Puts me in a good mood.

I am a woman. Sometimes it’s men and sometimes It’s women. They are not creepy. They are sincere. I am older so I appreciate the compliments.

One of the many crosses in life that I have learned to grace and dignity.
