If the public actually wanted this, they wouldn't have to come up with an Orwellian euphemism to describe it.

"Road diets" in DC mean lots and lots of bike lanes than no one uses and worse congestion for modes of transportation that people actually use.

Go back to DC if you want road diets, most people here don’t want this nonsense.

Outer NOVA is very different than VA. Roads are lots of multiple lane roads that double as highways. I just moved from DC to Springfield a year ago and kinda hate some of the roads that are like double lane highways for no good reason. Fairfax county parkway is awful; the turn for my kids' elementary school is right off of it (with nearly all of the 'in bounds' population and busses having to cross it/turn to get to the school, and there have been horrible accidents right at the intersection. I feel like an accident is reported nearly every week at some intersection nearby on Keene Mill Road.

Road diets can be about safety and not necessarily just about bike lanes.

Bikes are definitely not for everyone, but some people prefer them because they are cheaper, you get some exercise done efficiently, and riding is generally more fun/less frustrating than driving.

These are some reasons why individuals may choose bikes, but politicians probably choose to support them due to society-wide benefits: they produce less noise and pollution than cars, and they take up less parking space.

Interesting idea. You almost never see a bicycle rack at work sites or shopping centers. It's like cyclists never expect to stop anywhere. They just cycle out and cycle back and then drive their SUV to the store. I also don't see any baskets on the bicycles around here, just MAML.

The utilization of existing bike lanes is just too low to justify removing lanes for car traffic. Even in DC less than 1% of people use bikes to commute to work. Why would the utilization be higher on Metrotech Drive?

You anti-cycling MAGAs need to shut up and go away!

Nice try at othering. How very Trumpian of you. MAGAs don't care about any of this. It's the giant middle you keep pissing off with these stupid performative policies.

Good idea in concept but very few cyclists know their physical limits.

Remember this kind of foolishness when elections occur for the Board of Supervisors, who currently are almost all progressive/liberal, consistent with these kinds of choices and decisions.

I moved to Springfield recently, commute to DC, and absolutely HATE Fairfax County Parkway. Such a dangerous road, a pain in the @ss turning from it with the blinking yellow lights (especially at night when it's hard to judge distances) and there have been bad accidents near the turn in for my kid's elementary school where the busses turn. Is the road diet coming there? PLEASE! I hope so!

Old Keane Mill Road is also a mess. I grew up in New England where you are always on backroads and there is little dependence on always being on some weird combination road where people go highway speeds. I hate how NOVA roads are designed.

If they were building separate paths for use by walkers, bikers, etc, great! I'm all for that. I don't like bikes mixed in with car traffic and taking away traffic lanes is just silly esp with RTO.

Metrotech drive? Its industrial. There is no point in putting a bike lane in that doesn't connect with anywhere people would be biking to or from.
