"Road diets" in DC mean lots and lots of bike lanes than no one uses and worse congestion for modes of transportation that people actually use.

Bikes are definitely not for everyone, but some people prefer them because they are cheaper, you get some exercise done efficiently, and riding is generally more fun/less frustrating than driving.
