Man, IMO, that's a bit too long in just Boston proper. Now, there is a ton to do from a historical standpoint, checking out Cambridge, the USS Constitution, Boston Harbor, Fenway, Boston Pops, etc.

I'd add a trip onto the Cape in there - we used Hyannis as our home base and took day trips out from there - ferry to Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, drove out to Sandwich, Woods Hole, etc. Whaling Museum on Nantucket was interesting...

What?! The MFA is a fraction the size of the Met or the Louvre.

I would recommend heading up to Maine or New Hampshire if you enjoy being active. If you like the beach the Cape is good but you've got to book that now.

Where would you book in the Cape?

That's too long anywhere.

As for where to stay in Newport - if you google around you will find a lot of options. But 10 days in Newport is a lot, too.

What do you like to do on vacation?

I would respond the same way for any city with a 12 year old - too long. You’ll all enjoy and absorb more if you spend a few days there, then in a few years another few days, etc. Bc of course there is 12 days worth of things to do and see in Boston, but after a few days, most people esp kids want a break from city sights, logistics, etc. and it starts to blend together.

As others have said, I’d team 3 days in Boston with a week someplace like Maine, Cape Cod, etc.

Just Boston? That would be too much for me.

If you have no imagination and no interest in history…

With a 12-year-old – get real.

10 days is a lot for just Boston. I would get a hotel out of the city (probably the South Shore) and rent a car. You can take the T into the city for a few days but then also do the Cape, Plymouth, Newport, etc.

Definitely split it. Maybe 4 days if a day trip or two is thrown in. Then go to Maine!

I love Boston and have a lot of friends and family up there, so no it's not too long and there's a ton to see and do.

But if it were just a vacation, I would do a split as PPs are saying.

I would do 5 days in Boston max. I love the city but that's a lot for a kid.

I would break it up with trips to Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Plymouth, western Massachusetts, or Newport and beaches in RI.

I think 10 days could be okay if you also included a few day trips out of the city.

10 days is too long in any US city for me. I would pair it with other places nearby.
