Because there is no way of knowing if your kid will make another team without going to other tryouts.

Why are you going to the tryout? Is your intention to the leave that club? Why are you worried about the impacts if you are leaving? Are you worried about your kid not being selected by the new team and having to return to your old team?

It's a little confusing why you would go to a tryout and then really care about the impacts at your current club. Commit to a change because it will have impacts AND THEY WILL FIND OUT...just know that from the start. Why would a club keep investing in you if you have tried out elsewhere with the intention to join that club?

My kid has changed teams 3 times in the last 4 years. Each time he has gone up and is now MLS Next. You commit to the change and deal with the blowback.

You are wrong. They will be vindictive. They do not care about your kid. Also more to a club where your kid can play at his age. Playing up can lead to serious injuries and can suppress leadership/confidence.

So a program would burn bridges and sabotage their future success? I thought they cared about money and winning? Why throw that away?

Yeah my son plays up cause he is around the same size of the kids 2 years older and he is one of the top players on his team. I think that should be good for him. He loves his teammates. But I’ll watch out for confidence issues.

I pulled my kid from a coach and the guy was so angry he called most of the coaches he thought I was taking my son to so he could bad mouth me. So did the Karen team manager.

They were angry they couldnt use my son to cover for the team managers autistic kid who pissed his pants at practice.

I got text every day from Karens friends wanting to know where i was going. I went radio silence.

People in youth soccer are horrible.

Don’t be a fool. Work in silence. These coaches are super vindictive and act as if they were dumped by their high school girlfriend when they hear someone is trying out for another team. Seriously our old coach still has his panties in a bunch according to our former teammates.

This is an ugly side of youth sports and totally awful. BUT trying out elsewhere also the only way to gain any leverage. Being able to play hardball about where your kid plays -- if they're good enough -- does require being honest with them to get what you want - but perhaps not with the coach but the club director or director of coaching (That is if there's any desire to stay if something changes -- like playing on a different team, etc). Also, the problem with lying is it probably will burn bridges with the existing club -- so perhaps at least disclose and why if they ever confront directly if you take the more lowkey route.

Yeah by the time you walk onto another field as a top known player the texts are flying. Everyone knows in 5 mins.

Better to hit some training around X mas when its quiet and get some feedback. I know my kids club scheduales friendlies all week before tryouts to make sure no one is missing.

Its all really awful.

One element you cannot control is when parents at the club where you are trying out know parents/coaches on your current team. They will talk!

This is terrible. Can’t DC just stop going at this point if you know you’ll get in elsewhere? I don’t need my money back and if they are holding the player card, fine, we’ll jyst go to pickup games.

I pulled my 8 year old a week before the season started. I was not aware I couldn’t do this. His offer was made late. Now im thinking the coach will burn my older son who is still at the club and scheduled to go to a tournament. We paid a fee for a tournament already that I’m sure he won’t get to play in now.
