Visit both. My kid also was deciding between NYU CS and UMD CS. Both same cost. Ultimately decided on UMD honors. The schools have a VERY different feel, and that is an important component.

Average starting salary is close with UMD slightly higher. Both have 76% graduation rate. I'm confident DC will get a great education at either.

Based on cost and the structure of the honors college DC is leaning towards UMD. Your feedback was helpful.

And frankly 30 v. 44 is not that much of a gap. UMCP's probably closer to 34 than 44 if we're being honest. (and that even may be selling them short)

I'd go for UMCP. Honors is amazing, quasi-Ivy level. And it's basically a bargain.

Broken record here saying if money not a factor AND student wants the most urban of urban campus experiences, NYU all day.

Hoping you’ve visited both - NYU a very specific experience.

Mine would pick NYU.

100+, umd is top 50. Nyu ranks higher and Stern is close to t10 admit, tbh.

If money is not a factor, NYU hands down.

Leaning towards UMD strongly. NYU doesn't seem like a great undergrad experience unless DC just loves being in NYC.

What an idiotic post. Send your kid to U. Alabama instead if you think your kid is going to be safer from antisemitism there.

I think your child will get a great education at either one, but these are totally different environments. If your child wants to be in a city, then NYU. If your child wants a campus experience with D1 sports, then UMD.

OP - my son was deciding between NYU and UMD as well, and just committed to UMD (we are in state, and for his major it just made more sense). Have you guys been to any of the admitted students day events? That was what tipped it to UMD for my son - when he went to the department specific event at UMD. Best wishes to your daughter!!

UMD if interested in attending D1 sporting events.

NYU is not a safe environment right now if your child is Jewish.

MD resident, African American, introvert but not shy, close family friends in Manhattan, wants an interdisciplinary experience and will likely minor in a social science (leaning towards economics).

UMD!

Wrong.
NYU undergrad Econ in CAS is top 20.
CAS has 7% acceptance rate.

Cas <5% admit rate, NYU overall at 7%

That is right, NYU recently announced that it was less than 5% for stern, CAS and nursing.

I know it's TO school but there are a few strong programs and overall good for employment opportunities/development.
