The Seedkeeper by Diane Wilson
Even As We Breathe by Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle
Ceremony by Leslie Silko
Moon on the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice
and anything by Louise Erdrich

Recently got to visit Louise Erdrich’s wonderful bookstore in Minneapolis with my daughter. A cosy neighborhood place that has a special focus on indigenous authors. A highlight for sure!

Women Talking was great and set in the culture of a Mennonite community. More a philosophy and debate book. Also a type of meditation.

Sorry, PP and forgot a series about India that I’ve enjoyed for its sense of place and culture — the Perveen Mistry series by Sujata Massey

For Mexico, I’ve enjoyed most of the books by Sylvia Moreno Garcia. Mexican Gothic was my personal favorite, and I read it in a day, but trigger warning for an abusive family.

The Book of Negroes is only partially set in Africa, but I learned so much new-to-me history from it, plus it’s a good book and a long one.

Agree with Jhumpa Lahiri for India.
Amitav Ghosh’s The Shadow Lines
Abdulrazak Gurnah is great for Tanzania. I would start with By the Sea

A Brief History of Seven Killings (Jamaica). Excellent writing. But be warned that it’s quite sad.
