NO! WHY? Today is the day to cry from the rooftops that Trump just made every person in America - except himself - poorer!

Yeah, I posted above how he’s using too much nuance, and I agree the tucking is bad. But, I think it could backfire if they lash out on this page, individually it’s fine.

Maybe it’s me: I’m getting tired of the outrage. I want to go to the rally tomorrow in peace. Outrage is tearing us apart. Though ask me again next week.

Hopeless. Dems are just hopeless. I'm sorry it's true.

Hopeless, indeed. # walk away

This is the opposition you asked for. Statements that explain the better way the opposition would govern if they were in power.

If you want Democrats to throw aways principles and be a mirror-image of Trump but screaming left-leaning insanity, why?

The words in the tweet… don’t say Trump is a mess but “tariffs can be good”. It sounds like you’re supporting the tariffs!!! Stupid

Their messaging is TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. There is no other way to put it. They don't know what to say and when and on what on forum or channel.

Today they could have a simple struck a message of "We hear you and we agree that what this administration is doing is terrible and will hurt Americans more than help. There are ways to help Americans be successful and win at jobs, but this is not it. Point finger at Administration include GOP congress.

Period. Nothing else. Now is not the time to explain how they are different or what their plan is because no one is listening to that. Now is the time to direct attention how you want it.

Who do you think is the target audience for that message? And who should be the target audience for Dems?

I'm in comms and hitting my head against a wall. This is why Dems always lose.

Okay, what script would you give him today? Or, say nothing today?

Basically he could have said anything he wanted other than "we like tariffs, too." Anything at all.

And maybe we deserve it if this is how poorly we understand how to talk to people!

I feel so incredibly angry about this. Not that it's the thing that'll ruin our midterm chances or anything - but just how incredibly BAD our side is at this, which is arguably the most important part of politics: being able to talk to people. It's what Biden was worst at - good president, fatally bad communicator. And apparently all the rest of them, too.

I don't judge everything by the markets.

We have to become more self sufficient for our long term viability in a global economy.

My friend: I am not asking you for a nuanced debate about tariffs. I am asking you to imagine you are the House Democrats, putting out political messaging today. Can you imagine working on messaging?

Can you imaging you aren't a think tanker or a policy wonk, but someone who is trying to communicate with the public and maybe even win elections?

For a good comms message, look at what people are saying in town halls across America.

While decisions are being made in a gold Trump tower, regular families are struggling to pay for groceries. These tariffs will make food more expensive TODAY. People are losing their jobs and farms, what are you doing to get them help TODAY while you attempt to bring back manufacturing to America longterm?

You can’t approach any idea beyond an 8th grade level or you are going to get half of America confused.

American attention spans are absolutely fried. Trump knows to keep his statements simple.

+1

Dems can be too smart for our own good. Somehow Dems manage to underestimate and overestimate the general public at the same time. Leave the nuanced communications for another day. Strike an emotional chord when the opportunity arises.

Not only do they need to appeal to emotion, but they need to assume most people have a limited understanding of government and economics.

Yes! Everyone is busy, tired, stretched and knows very little about the thing you are passionate about. But today everyone is upset and angry about tariffs. So how about maybe today don't tweet out a video about how we'd like to do them, too, from the House Dems twitter account. Is that too f hard, Dems? Is it??
