Then I’d go with something like the Cuyana. Portland leather also gets recommended here a lot. My daughter used a nverfull in college (splurge gift from my sister) and bought the Pyramid soon after college. $ for $, the Neverfull is absolutely not worth the money.
I have a Portland Leather tote and I’ve come to hate the fact that it is unlined. The “leather lint” gets on clothes (like if I throw a light sweater in my bag) and anything else that has the ability to rub against the sides. I retired it.
Same issue with unlined leather bags!!! I will never buy one again.

Totally. Not sure why this is a post. A nice computer bag is the equivalent of wearing height heels as you walk to class. A back pack is the most functional!
So... tell an 18 year old that what she wants isn't actually what she wants, and buy her what WE think she should have? Like we would for a 4 year old?

Get her a LV Neverfull now, the prices will probably only go up. Maybe go with the black print if you hate logos, but the canvas may be better for long-term use. That's what my college aged girl uses when she doesn't want a backpack.

My daughter used a medium sized Madewell Transport leather tote. I am still amazed at how much it survived, and she is still using it post-college, looks fine. It’s enough to fit her MacBook, water bottle, a notebook and some essentials. Anything more than that - Herschel backpack it was.
