Even though it has a smaller footprint it’s got everything I’m looking for and great produce. It’s like they actually understand who their client demographic is and stock accordingly. It’s way better than the honking huge new Harris Teeter that never seems to have what I’m looking for. The next two closest Safeways are meh (Harrison) or HIDEOUS (Bluemont). Chesterbrook used to be hideous, but it’s improved a lot in everything except produce. One time I went in and couldn’t get onions.
But as others have pointed out, it’s part of a huge mega grocer, so it’s not going anywhere. Some consolidation may happen, but it’s not like we’re underserved for grocery stores in this area.

Yep. The safeway near me (Fairfax) is a dump, never stocked, terrible produce, deli is kinda gross, etc...not sure how it's still opened. I wish it would get re-vamped.
The Safeway near me has a Starbucks. I am positive that's keeping the store afloat.
