ACHS is actually stellar if you are a motivated kid. If you are an average UMC white kid its pretty darn good too. The school is segregated and offers very advanced classes and programs

WePo is not segregated and more typical of a rural school with basic offering. There really isn't any comparison between the two for most of the demographics of this site.

The outside is beautiful. I don’t love the wood ceilings. I think I’m thrown off by the horrible decorating. It’s such a mish mash. Do you plan to use private schools? It’s weird that there are different cabinets in the kitchen, and the primary bath with two pedestal sinks looks so cheap, but is probably easy to fix. Overall, it’s a very nice house and would be $1m more in Arlington or McLean.

I like it. Our family has paid a premium for a SFH in Arlington close to Metro. So much better than a stressful and inconsistent commute to DC.

The house is OK, although I don't like the wooden ceiling planks too much. I don't know your finances, but if you are looking in Fort Hunt area, there is a house for sale literally a mile from the house you're looking at, I tried to put the link, but for some reason am unable to put it in, but the address of the house for sale is 1212 Shenandoah Rd, Alexandria, VA 22308. I live in Fort Hunt area, and I would not be concerned about plane noise too much.

Hell no for 1.3. Like GTFO hell no. You could buy in Del Ray or Rosemont for that.

Also there are currently some plans to change the flight paths for airplanes taking off so OP should inquire about that.

Anon at 11:10 here - That said, the airplane and helicopter noise definitely takes getting used to. Between the hospital and Ft. Belvoir, there’s more low-flying aircraft than other places. There’s also the planes landing at Reagan, although I don’t hear them.

I live 1/4 mile away from the house, and it’s a great community. The commute to downtown is fine for the most part, depending on the time of day, like everywhere else. For me it can take 50 mins to get downtown on a Thursday if I leave at the wrong time - you need your wits about you for the bottleneck to get onto the 14th bridge. School experience can be divisive on this board, but like everywhere else, it works for some and it doesn’t work for others - some are happy in the public schools, others choose private. We could use more full-day daycares that took infants, but if you aren’t at that stage in life then that may not matter as much. Pools are important in the summer. That Safeway is tiny, but there’s a bigger Safeway further up Ft. Hunt rd.
