Does this mean no IAAT test next year? Is that a budget item?

This was a quiet little change. ES 6th grade teachers, did FCPS tell you all? On link website it now says for those not wanting to link through:

Algebra I Honors

Algebra I Honors is open enrollment for all 8th grade students.

Requirements for enrollment in Algebra I Honors in 7th grade:

Successful completion of the Advanced Mathematics Grade 6 curriculum or a year-long accelerated mathematics program
Score a pass advanced (500 or above) on the grade 7 mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) test
Starting with the current students rising to grade 7 in the fall of 2025, the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test (IAAT) will no longer be used as a requirement for enrollment. Instead, families of students who meet the above criteria may select either Mathematics 7 Honors or Algebra 1 Honors.

I suspect that this change is to try and stop the complaints from the parents who want their kids in Algebra 1 H in 7th grade that did not meet the thresholds. I feel bad for the Algebra teachers next year because there are going to be more struggling kids in the class.

Disagree- FCPS would never make the change because of that. Now they would make change to allow more to take algebra so Reid can put on her resume she increased algebra in MS by x% before she tries to get her next job- that is ding! Ding! Right answer.

More that test is actually a tool to for parents to determine if kid really should accelerate.

FCPS knows the test results and would be interesting to know if LESS kids scored enough this year and that’s why being dropped AFTER the kids took the test. That would align with fact Reid has over and over voiced goal to push kids to algebra by 8th (whether the kids are ready or not). By removing the test, can get an increase in #s taking algebra next year.

My hope is that FCPS moves so slowly, that by the time Reid looks to fully implement algebra by 8th to the masses, that the School Board have read the studies that find more detriment to a student’s future math development may be caused by starting algebra too soon. Reid’s one size fits all push to accelerate math is smoke and mirrors (and agree will be a nightmare for teachers and counselors).

This will never happen and is an unattainable goal to get 100. This push for accelerating is ridiculous.

Let's keep sheltering our kids from all tests. Solid way of preparing them for the real world!

Then they have to take all other tests as well why only IOWa ? After writing it . Recently they changed the format to computer why didn’t they decide then to cancel it ?

Can we at least get the scores? Yes we prep'ed (like every test/quiz I have ever taken in my life) and yes I'd like to see how my child did. My child wants to see how he did too!

They changed the test this year so that it was computerized instead of paper based. They changed the format too, it's now one
section of 60 questions with 40 minutes time limit. Before it was 4 sections with 15 questions in each and a 10 minute time limit per section.

Seeing as how the test is now computer based, schools should have a good idea on what the kids scored. I wonder if this additional information pushed the school board to remove the test as a requirement for taking Algebra 1 in 7th grade.

Looks like they aren't "banning" advanced/accelerated classes after all.
