Davidson isn't conservative. It is moderate compared to Midd and Wesleyan...about the same or possibly less conservative than Denison.

+1 Middlebury is also situated in a very non-diverse state. Of course, that's what some students want.

And Middlebury has very few African American students.

Middlebury sounds great for finance. Davidson for premed.

Look at the course offerings for departments you want to study in.

That quickly changed my kid’s perspective on the difference between Wesleyan and Davidson.

Not to hijack but Can you explain what you mean about Oberlin’s vibe more?

Historically, Middlebury has been the most elite of the schools you have asked us to rank. A lot of students are still coming from generational wealth. It used to be need-blind for international students hence it has the best international reputation of the four. It also has a high percentage of United World College students attending. Middlebury is well represented in the financial world through its graduates and the families they come from.

Wesleyan has a great reputation as well. It does get confused as Wellesley—A LOT—and it’s known for being uber liberal. It’s President just wrote a fearless letter against the Trump administration.

You’d have to be an excellent student to get into Middlebury or Wesleyan and would need to choose one to apply ED to. Getting in RD is impossible.

Davidson and Denison are fine schools but a bit more regional in terms of reputation. They also offer an excellent education. Lucky is the person that is able to attend any of these schools.

All are great- different campus cultures/strengths/vibes. See where your kid feels most comfortable.

I have a kid at Wes who also looked at Middlebury. Not going to weigh in on prestige—it’s a dumb way to choose a school—but will say that I think both of these are “fit” schools. If you can, go and visit and see what you think. My kid felt immediately at home at Wes but found Middlebury too quiet and preppy; kid’s friend had the opposite experience—didn’t like Wes at all, fell in love with Middlebury.

In terms of admissions, they are very similar, so if you’re a good candidate for one, you’re probably a good candidate for the other.
