It’s all about the Benjamin’s. Schools will simply need more full pay students, so expand the field of applicants, skillfully apply data analytics and get the number of full pay students needed.

Going to be part of the process for everyone that can’t offer need blind admissions which will be a dwindling pool of universities.

Don't colleges make a ton of $$ on application fees? So more applications via the common app should increase their funds? They're endowment is not great so I see this as a smart move, even though it will make things more difficult for my 2026 kid.

nah. The trend is going 'test required' for the top schools. Georgetown has ALWAYS been test required--so don't think that will change. Maybe they won't require every single test the kid took anymore--and make it like the common app with superscore?

In this climate, they are going to need more full pay students--particularly with a low-endowment and very high tuition/little aid. Common App opens the pool tremendously.

But many of those deferrals are actual acceptances. They lost so many kids that EA there and get deferred and take an Ivy or T20 in the later rounds. What was once a die-hard first choice for these kids sours them by the time April comes around. My kid's year they accepted a lower percent EA than they did RD. It was more disadvantageous to apply early and show your love then.

Me too, it's been my 2026 kid's top choice. Already knew it was a reach, but this feels even worse. Only thing to make up for it would be to add Early Decision instead of their restrictive early action that doesn't deny.

I feel like this is a bad thing for DCs that have Georgetown as a top choice. The huge number of increased apps will make it harder to get an acceptance. Bummed.

As far as I'm aware, he's still alive. I think a PP was alluding to the fact that there is a new(ish) president of the university, though I can't recall the details.

U-Chicago's was always more weird and a PIA.

These were common barriers that people who really wanted these schools would scale to show their interest. It was a way of separating the wheat from the chaff.

Interesting that this news article appears today. Probably because Regular Decision is expected to be released tomorrow.
