Nonsense. There are no good MAGATs. Only selfish, racist voters interested in lies and the dismantling of our democracy. Or very, very stupid people who have never taken a civics course in their life and don’t know what democracy is. Either way - I have cut all MAGATs out of my life. Good riddance to them all. I have enough other level-headed non-MAGAT family members and friends. I don’t need these other losers in my life.

^ And to your question, OP...

... a lot of people don't fit into Republican or Democrat belief systems. I'd say, most people, if they pause to think about it!

So you have to look past the label.

I hold a wide range of beliefs. I believe the government should be extended to provide a greater social safety net, affordable college and universal healthcare without middle men driving up costs. I also believe we should invest in a border wall at the southern border (astronomical costs, BTW, which is why it's never been done), because it's much easier to treat migrants *humanely* when we can control the flow. We don't need the bad optics of throwing poor people out in shackles if we haven't let them in, in the first place.

And those things cost a shitload of money. We need higher taxes, especially at the higher income brackets (sorry, rich people of DCUM). We need to close corporate tax loopholes.

And most of all: we need to refund the IRS and hire more agents and lawyers to fight tax fraud cases. Every time the IRS was given a little bit more money by Congress, it clawed back much more money than it was given, in unpaid taxes!!! It's the single easiest guaranteed source of untapped income we have - people who don't pay their fair share. I know NO ONE wants to do this, because every individual, regardless of political creed, feels a little better thinking the IRS isn't coming after their potential shenanigans. But ultimately, it's bad for the country and we're missing out on a large pot of money that's right under our nose.

Its very easy to separate it if you are white, middle/upper class male.

Otherwise, much more difficult.

No. I distance myself from Trumpers, including my family.

I don't need their garbage thoughts in my life.

Yes, don't talk politics like Feds at work!

I was having lunch with two friends with opposite views and they got into politic talk/fight for 3 hours.
That was eye opening!

They did move pass it and are friendly again, but next time, I will say "I got to run"!

I agree. Not anymore.

+1. Not anymore. I think it is very important now to distance one’s self, as our children and grandchildren will judge/blame us if we don’t.

It's definitely part of the reason we are divorcing.

That is key! I top have friends that are conservative and liberal. I consider myself also moderate and independent.
Some of my friends have preferences on both sides where they may believe in a strong border policy, fiscal restraint, but also want gun control and are pro choice on abortion.
I cut off communication with an older brother who would shift any conversation into a political debate knowing full well it conflicted with my views.
Basically, I won't entertain exhausting and insulting people on either side of the political spectrum including family members.

It’s very hard. To me a lot of it boils down to how you feel about society as a whole and each person‘s obligations to others in a society. For me that is a moral question.

In addition there are a lot of single issue voters for whatever reason.

I have a friend who is conservative in most of her beliefs (believes abortion is ok until a certain time) but votes democrat it's very confusing but yes we are still friends. She's a good person with a good heart.
