I actually think it's pretty smart to think about that in advance because sometimes things can go wrong quickly. And I say that as someone who does not have anxiety. I agree with whc and children's.
May you not need it!

+1. If you live out in PG, then AAMC also has a nice of this level.

You don't need to worry about getting anybody on the phone. If you are in labor prematurely, head to the hospital and they can help you.

— When exactly was I a “drama llama”? When I admitted to being worried about prematurity for no special reason, or when I mentioned my (unfortunately real) health concern the first and only time?

— That’s why I’m here asking “which hospital,” Genius.

You are one of the nastiest posters I’ve encountered on DCUM, and that’s saying something. I feel sorry for you that you get something out of calling a sick, concerned expectant mother rude names behind the cover of anonymity.

They handle a lot of high risk deliveries with very ill babies because if issues are diagnosed before birth and there is a known need for immediate complex intervention, other hospitals will transfer delivery there for the coordination with Children's. The service level/amenities are not as high end as Sibley but the medical care is great.

Double check with your insurance but we have State of MD UHC Choice and they are in network for us.

This. I had a very complicated pregnancy and delivery and this was the only option in the region for me. It’s very bare bones as far as amenities go but the medical care you and the baby will receive are top.

Everyone should be aware that Georgetown will apply their Catholic values to decisions about your health as the mother. If you have concerns, you may be better off at a non-religious hospital.

You should. He will think you are nuts.

Just neurotic

I’m usually not, but I had a lot of first trimester issues that started things off on the wrong foot, and thinking through plans for different scenarios helps my anxiety.

Thought the thread might be useful for other women, too.

You should get professional help. This isn't normal.

Your doctor would know what to do in the case of a micro preemie. Don't waste time on this.

So… unlike some other posters expressing similar sentiments, you are phrasing this in a rude and off-putting way.

You also have no idea about my situation or history. Like how I couldn’t get anyone on the phone when I miscarried one twin in the middle of the night, or how I was diagnosed later that same day with a potentially terminal illness myself which means I likely can’t get pregnant again.

Despite all of this, I’ve barely missed a day of work, I’m enjoying the baby wiggles in my belly as I decorate a nursery, and I’m still taking time to smell the spring flowers.

I’d hope you’d cope as well in the same situation.

For all you know, I’m also already getting professional help.

But I think it’s pretty rude of you to go there so curtly, and call my question “a waste of time” just because I’m curious about which hospitals have good NICUs and am able to laugh at myself for being a little neurotic about this.

I didn't call your question a waste of time. I told you not to waste YOUR time on this. Your time is better spent. Do you think anxiety is good for your baby?

Potentially terminal illness? Really? or are you being a drama llama again?

As someone who had PPA: signs can start developing before birth. I'd suggest talking to your doctor if you're having a lot of thoughts like this.

My niece and nephew were born at 24 weeks at gw( admitted around 23, 4 days..)

Thriving healthy kids now. I delivered mine both at gw too because I knew if I needed a nicu that's where I'd want to be

All 4 of my kids were delivered at Sibley, but I had complications with 3 and a premie. If it had been earlier, my doctor said he would have sent me to Georgetown (Sibley only if past 30ish weeks, I think). Short answer is: your doctor will tell you!

OP, I say this gently and as one who also battles anxiety. I understand better than most how having "plans" eases the worry a bit, so I really do understand your post.

The thing is, though, that having a baby and as that baby grows the unknowns and worries will be so numerous that no matter of planning will help you feel safe and secure. And in the meantime, you will miss the small joyful moments of your child's life. Please take it from one who wishes she had this advice: use your time now before the baby is born addressing your anxiety with a professional that specializes in such a major life transition as the one you are experiencing. I wish I had.
