Our DMV all girls Catholic K-12 sends anywhere between 20-25% to top 25 schools. That's the reason we picked this Catholic over others. It's a bit of a pressure cooker for those striving for those colleges, but it has been consistent in its outcomes year to year. Fingers crossed for our DD. We're paying about $50K a year, but would do so no matter what as we are committed to Catholic education.

It's not just where you live. The days of most private school kids going to Ivies and national colleges you actually heard of are largely over. Most colleges I hear of kids going to - never heard of it. Or it's like a state school that used to be unpopular but now an achievement.

I'm not in academia, but perhaps a much larger percentage of admitted students are full pays from overseas, which would leave fewer spaces.

The public charter and religious private schools become essentially like how public schools were when we were kids. Most kids do go on to college but at state schools and less selective/religious affiliated SLAC’s. Public schools in those areas increasingly only have troubled students. So I guess I would just stay the course and supplement at home as much as possible so your kids are well prepared for college.

+1. This was me even in the 90s and 00s. Living in the city, the publics were a disaster so we went to a pretty mediocre Catholic school. It helped that we were Catholic, of course. But it was a big deal if a kid got into Notre Dame, everyone else went to state schools or LACs mostly known only to those within the state.

This is VERY true! Many of the boys couldn't be bothered and a good chunk of the girls drag their feet b/c they don't like their pic or sweat over a song choice
