+1 Also your pediatrician can check your son’s current height against his individual growth curve and see if he’s progressing as expected. Growth spurts tend to coincide with stages of puberty and based on where your son is on that scale the doctor can advise if he has a lot more height growth to come. There’s always variability but you can determine if his growth is as expected or not.

My DS was 5’4” and under 100lbs at 14.5

Less than 2 years later he is 6’0” and I’m not sure he is done.

Did not see an endocrinologist but at 14.5 ped said DS was just in the early stages of puberty and nothing to worry about yet. Once they start growing it can go really really fast. My DS grew almost 5 inches in 12 months.

Predicted 5.11+ but that seems like a lot of growth with a closing window. Would feel much better if he was at 5.6 at this point.

The cdc growth curves are so nice and smooth and easy to fixate on, but in truth, no individual grows according to a smooth curve. There are spikes and plateaus. The only thing you can be sure of is that their height won’t decrease during adolescence.

I have a 16 year old who only grew an inch from 15-16 and now suddenly grew 2 inches within a 6 week span at 16.5. I do have a theory that they tend to grow when they are receiving adequate sleep. At least, mine always seem to sprout when they are on holiday breaks.

My 15.5 year old is 5’6” and I have zero concerns that he had at least 6 more inches to grow (and probably 8) based on his clearly late puberty and parental heights.

He sounds like he’s a late bloomer, since he doesn’t have many other signs of puberty.

My. DS was 5'2.5" at 14. He is days from 15 and is about 5'7" and most of that is since Christmas.

The variation at this age is huge. My older son had not even started growing at that age, while my younger son was nearly finished growing at that age. Both are normal.

Also, as others have said, some boys just grow steadily over the years. Others have a huge spurt and grow a crazy amount over a short time.

I think if the pediatrician did not have any concerns at his last appointment, you probably don’t have anything to worry about. If puberty/growth was not discussed at all, you could call/email and ask. Usually they will note stage of puberty on his chart.

The rude comments and suggestions from acquaintances about growth hormones are just ignorant. Your DS isn’t even that short- especially for his age- anyway. Some boys are done growing at that height.

Some kids don't really have a spurt. They just keep growing slow and steady.
But DS has a friend who didn't grow until junior year of HS and had his growth spurt then. He went from like 5'4 to 5'10 in a year.
With your height and your DH's height he'll be on the taller side at least. Don't worry.

Sounds like he is very early in puberty and has lots of growing time left.

My son was also a late bloomer and was 5’3 at 14 year old physical, 5’7” at 15 year old physical and is now about 5’9” at 15.5. Not sure where he will end up but I assume he will grow til 18 like his Dad did.

+1 This is how it worked with my son. He even grew another inch in college and is now a little taller than 6'1".

This seems fine, and 2 inches per year is considered normal growth. Not all boys have a huge growth spurt, some just remain consistent and steady. If he keeps growing at a rate of 2 inches per year, he’ll be 6ft by the time he is 18
