This. With a red brick house any color looks good. With a gray house, a blue or green of any shade will look nice. Personally I think red and yellow look awful with gray.

I think you can do either yellow or red, you just have to choose the right shade. A lot depends on the undertones of your grey and the trim color - if you have cream trim, a bright yellow or red door will look jarring, but with white trim it would pop. Similarly, if you have a warm grey and put a cool red on the door, it will look out of place. Personally I like yellow!

Ours is BM Sunshine and people have literally knocked on our front door or flagged us down in the yard to ask the paint color. It looks great and pops even with our deep front porch.

I like yellow for interest but watch the shade. There is gorgeous house near us with fabulous gardens etc but they painted the front door a mustard yellow. It looks terrible.

White door will give you good contrast with black shutters.
I will say deep porch might make paint a shade darker.
