Spend your time doing something else. Walk through Central Park, visit the Highline, take the Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty.

Agree with this. If you haven't been before, do this instead. The ferry and Statue are more interesting to kids this age than a museum.

My 12 year old DD and I noped it out of the Met real quick after standing in line, entering and seeing the crowds. She enjoyed seeing the Taylor Swift statue, Katy Perry Statue, and pretending to be a fashion model doing ramp walk, a guest on Today show, all in the Wax museum. We only went inside the Wax Museum since it was the last day of our trip and everything else like Edge, One WTC, Statue of Liberty tours were booked and we had one more visit left on our city pass.

The Tenement Museum is unique and immersive. Nothing like that in DC. See the website here and reserve:
https://www.tenement.org

There is also a great gelato place nearby: https://www.laboratoriodelgelato.com

Agree on Tenement Museum. And I suggest Broadway instead of museums.

At any large world-class museum, it all depends on your kids' personal interests which you know best. Look at special exhibits at all the major museums to see if there's anything that connects.

MOMA had evening hours and a really good cafeteria. That can help with fitting it in to a busy trip.
