We found the school to be warm but lacking in any kind of intellectual rigor. High priced and just kind of a dumb place with a lot of uninteresting suburban families with a little bit of money. Sort of like the head of school. Who fits right into that mold.
Burke though more urban was for us far more sophisticated and serious about education with deeply thought out connective tissue across the learning centers. And teachers that are more educated and well read.
But again. Know that the Field marketers start and manage threads on this board aggressively. So expect them to pounce on this with testimonials about how fabulous the place is.
It’s not. It’s a B- place with B- teachers and B- kids.

I am very surprised people do not talk about the school more. It seems to fly under the radar and I am not sure why. The campus and facilities are beautiful and everyone we interacted with were so warm and friendly. It seems like a fantastic school.
It does fly a bit under the radar, but less the last few years and admissions have become tough. I think families recognize that it’s a lower pressure school with impressive college results. The teachers are fantastic, and the school-wide approach to inquiry and learning is inspiring. It feels like a cohesive approach to education and preparing kids for the future. The campus improvements have been great and the new building will allow the school to serve more students.
I’ve said for years that if college outcomes are an important factor in your school selection, Field is the best life hack in the area. If your kid is hardworking and smart, they will almost certainly rise to the top 20% of their class at Field. And unquestionably, the top 20% of each year’s class go to top 25 universities.
Even the top tier of students at Field are under a tiny fraction of the pressure that their UNWDC peers experience.
This is absolutely not a criticism of Field - the exact opposite.

Field is very small on a beautiful but small campus in NWDC. Sports are not a thing at Field (they have teams but nobody would go to Field for sports purposes).
I could keep going but no reasonable person could visit both schools and think that they’re similar.
Bullis looked more racially diverse but culturally more conservative to us. Maybe it's the uniforms? Field felt more progressive, but less racial diversity. It's also much smaller than Bullis so maybe hard to compare the diversity with the two schools. But I agree, very different vibes at the two schools.
