Harris Teeter has very sophisticated cameras where clerks can play back in front of you what was scanned and put in the bag. Likely other stores do too.
Costco does too. I accidentally forgot to scan one item and they knew exactly what it was and asked about it when I got to the door.
No, I wasn't trying to steal. $4 bag of apples isn't something I need to steal nor do I need to make a point.

See, I'm of the opinion that taking bags without pay isn't stealing. They are used to facilitate the transaction. I need them to carry the product. Never mind the fact that the mark up on them is 10000%
It is irrelevant what you think. The law says you have to pay for it.

I use self checkout so fewer people handle my stuff. At least one person less.
