There's no return. There has always been spelling.
Definitely not consistently. As you can see from responses on this thread.

My ES kids are now learning rules of spelling and getting weekly spelling tests based on those rules. My older kids, who did Curriculum 2.0 and Benchmark for ES, didn't have spelling as far as I could tell -- and certainly no spelling lists sent home. This is a big improvement.
There has always been spelling in ES, even in C2.0

Maybe at your W school? Our poor Focus school had ZERO spelling instruction in ES. Our MS did hold a spelling bee and we forced our kids to participate in the hopes that it would help a little with spelling.

Elementary schools should have a curriculum that includes spelling along with vocabulary and grammar.
Private schools use workbooks for spelling and vocab.

Anonymous wrote:I started private tutoring for writing last year and am doing spelling independently for a 5th grade student. Unfortunately, I will be working with him probably until he graduates to make up for the terrible instruction he got. They waste so much time in the class with Ed tech coupled with the terrible curriculum prior to ckla. There are families in other states who are suing school districts for using these crappy curriculums and then the students leave school with limited academic skills
