We are always on United or Delta for long haul flights - frequent flyer miles make those trips free. So no, I don't look forward those flights except for catching up on movies.

The food and service are not particularly noteworthy.

Here's the thing- the difference between a $200/night hotel in most places and a $750/night is the nice things, maybe quality of the breakfast, service, etc. You still generally get a quiet room with a bed to sleep in. The difference between an economy seat and a business class seat on a 777 is like 5x the amount of space, a fully flat space around 23 inches wide and 6 feet to sleep in, no one physically touching you or within arms reach, lounge access (often really nice with an evening departure, eat dinner in the lounge and go straight to sleep on board), etc. A nice hotel room is still fundamentally the same product type as a middling hotel room.

I miss traveling for work - frequent upgrades and the travel time was just nice quiet downtime. Now I teach - no work travel and no collecting tons of miles for upgrades.

Yes, I still remember a wonderful trip home from London on British Airways where I stretched out in my private cocoon (no one jext to me, window seat), watched a great movie, ate a great meal and then slept really well. The restrooms were beautiful! It was business class and seemed like first class amenities to me. It was the best trip. But yeah, domestic business and first are not really worth it.

I got a Thai vegetable curry in Polaris and I've had better microwaved dinners from Banquet from the frozen aisle of the supermarket. The communications staff did a great job describing how great it would be.

I would recommend grabbing a pair of the Polaris PJs whenever you can though.

Yes the sleep on an overnight flight is the true value in my mind- as someone who has basically barely slept on overnight flights in economy.

Domestic first is nothing to write home about. A bigger seat and PDB. Meh.

I get it but I wouldn’t want to enjoy the flight *more* than the trip. I love the adventure and novelty.

I think this it for a lot of women. I can’t even remember the last time someone cooked for me and served me food or when I didn’t have to clean up after a meal!

I would just vacation on the plane flying to Dubai.

It's unbelievable what you are enjoying from the food to to the bed. I mean, I don't know that I'd love business first on United but if you fly the right airline, good god girl, that is the vacation for sure. Go online and check out the videos.

It's def not cooped up in a box for 20 hours let me just say that.

Yes, I did that (Emirates First Class). Almost 30 hours of travel time but between the plane and the lounges it was very, very nice. It was for work and the destination was...I will say unexciting to be nice. I looked forward to the return flight.

Imagine how much you'd enjoy vacation if you just stayed in a local hotel room.

Hire cleaners and remodelers while you are gone, then love in permanent ecstasy with less carbon footpt.

It reminds me a little of those people in wall-e who are happy to spend years in recliners drinking soda
