AAU coaches with son's who are the starting PG? Yes. Then they don't let the big guys shoot jumpers or dribble. They rarely take many guards, they don't want their own kid to have to share playtime or be worse than a bench guard.

The CHS JV team was average. Small and mostly guards which supports pp's claim he is fishing around for bigs to get rebounds for his short PG son. He likely considers any kid who didn't make varsity in 10th as beneath him.

Kids who are "big" aren't given the chance to shoot, dribble, pass etc by bad AAU coaches (usually AAU coach kid is the point guard and the team is built for his benefit. Most kids who are "big" in say 5th grade don't end up "basketball big" anyway-they are guard-size in high school but did not develop any of the guard skills do to being pigeonholed as 'bigs'. That why big guys now call themselves "combo guards", they don't want to get stuck in the "big" role.

Why wouldn't he just recruit kids from the Chantilly JV team he coaches....?

Bigs are the most sought after at every tryout. You don't even have to be good. This is true on the girls side too. If you're tall or "big", you will get scooped up without fail. And talented bigs can make a team so I am unclear why everyone is trying to be a guard.

There are a lot more guards than 4s and 5s. A lot more at every tryouts.

Even the "big guys" want to be guards (and who can blame them). But coaches want big guys willing to do the dirty unfun work.

So the first two teams probably scooped up all the available skilled power forwards and centers.

He has delusions of grandeur and probably thought the rest of the kids weren't good enough for his team.

I don't know. DS explained that the other coach is now the MADE Hoops coach and took a lot of Bermudez players. He had to get all new kids and I believe coaches his son.

How is he as a coach? I wonder why he dropped down from the A team to the C. Were there issues that he couldn’t field a team the first time around? Also why not just move to the list of kids they cut from tryouts vs have another tryout?
