The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) releases reports including data on candidate performance on the Uniform CPA Exam.11 The following schools had the highest first-time CPA exam pass rates in Virginia in 2019 (the most recent report available*) for candidates with a bachelor’s degree, with the overall pass rate for first-time test-takers in Virginia being 62.2%:
University of Virginia’s College at Wise 90.9%
University of Virginia 86.5%
College of William & Mary 85.5%
Washington and Lee University 81.6%
James Madison University 79.9%
Old Dominion University 74.7%

UVA Wise is a 4 year business program. UVA, W&M, and W&L are not.
These are all high pass rates with national average around 50%.

I've hired and interviewed both for Big 4 and for a public company (I'm a CPA hiring manager). UVA and W&M are equivalent. Next VT, then GMU and JMU. This is based on interviewing but also in having these grads work for me.

VT is #48 in Accounting
JMU is not ranked in Accounting but is #114 for Business Programs
Interestingly (not a VA school)... but Loyola MD is also ranked #114 for Business Programs, but is ranked #31 in Accounting
JMU ranked in the top 20 publics by the WSJ for graduate salaries in accounting. VT did not.

My child is accounting major at a Va Public (not UVA). all Big4s go deep into the class at her school and from what I can tell the other Va publics too.
For example about 1/4 of Virginia Tech’s ACIS majors go to Big4.
