What age group and how serious is your child about soccer? If he/she is younger and/or not wanting to play against higher levels of competition (ECNL/GA), then you might find it ok but a lot will depend on the individual coach (which is true of a most clubs). GFR's top teams play in ECNL-RL and are generally competitive. The girls teams are, overall, stronger than the boys teams. It's not as organized as some bigger clubs (which you may or may not notice depending on what other clubs you have experience with). Practices and home games are usually at Nike Park, Lake Fairfax and a few other fields in/around the area (it varies by team). What one of the PP's alluded to with the XD (not "the owner") can probably be summed up as too much "How can this benefit me?" and not enough "How can I make this club the best that it can be?" if that makes sense.

DD played GFR for a few years. This being a smaller club, their good players would play across multiple teams. Usually playing up 1-2 years. The fields were not that great, games at high schools or lake Fairfax.

Practice at lake Fairfax would feel icky sometimes because they would either share field space with an adult soccer league of men. Slightly uncomfortable for teenage girls to share the field and dirty port a pots with 25-45 men.

If there was a home field or office I never saw it, it seemed like coach’s just run practices out of their cars and homes.

It was ok, DD has enjoyed new club better.

This sounds like a totally legitimate option for a do good wholesome club focusing on talent development for the sake of talent development but GFR is straight up grimy and shady so I’m not buying it.

We are considering GFR. Can you elaborate on what is shady about them?

From the pool of kids that don't want to compete in MLSN/MLSN2/GA (and yes those kids exist, although I know that there are entire threads dedicated to that topic).

Then when the "next move" or joining worries. Be the good developmental club you are.
