none of the kids at HYM were hooked. S and P both hooked and unhooked.
we have a lot of legacy kids who are deferred SCEA and then get in RD. this is quite typical

Especially if it's one of HM, Trinity, Dalton, Collegiate, Spence, Chapin, or Brearley— their counselors are far more equipped to answer this question than we are.

Dartmouth hasn't taken a non-legacy kid from our school in 10 years. (as a result, they get few apps ... on our naviance 4 years ago they got 22, last year they got 9. I think 10 years ago it was probably closer to 30)

it's tiny, smart, preppy, mainstream, remote and oriented around outdoor activities and frats. If you are quirky, international, poor, etc you may find your people or it can be hard and there is nothing else nearby.
Despite this many if not most applicants apply mainly because it's an Ivy. Most can never visit because it's remote. Dartmouth probably knows where they can reliably find kids who will thrive.

when we were on the Dartmouth tour, the admissions officer said he gets asked one question a lot "Is it better to get higher grades or take the hardest classes" and he said, "Both"
They are very transparent about wanting the best stats. And secondly, the rich kids. I don't think outdoorsy matters. at. all. Unless you are recruit for one of the ski teams.

I read through this and it's not who goes to Dartmouth from our school.
From our private, Dartmouth likes wealthy kids with tip top grades and test scores. They seem the least holistic of the T20 schools. Other top schools you can see on Naviance when school reach for a kid with a 3.85 or a 1490 who has an application that must shine in another way. Dartmouth has none of that. Only top top GPA and test scores. At our school, those kids are not always the most compelling students in the classroom or community.
IOW, I find Dartmouth to be a bit full of shit.

For T2/T3 high schools in nyc, Cornell is your best chance. Your school will also send a few to Penn regularly. Other ivies are mostly off the table/irregular admits for unhooked.
this is a TT high school
A NYC TT (Trinity, Dalton, HM) sends >40% to ivies alone.
25% to T20 is T3 in NYC.

Same from our competitive NJ public, and we send tons of kids every year to the other ivies and top schools. It's been over 10 years since we sent anyone to Dartmouth.
