Maybe at your school. I am happy with the ELC at my child’s school. Like the creativity, books, and teacher is wonderful.
What type of "creativity" was in your program?
My son went from hating writing to loving it. Especially likes creative writing.

Said that MCPS paid a lot of money for CKLA and they will be doing that in place of ELC (but maybe with some ELC elements thrown in). Said that kids are grouped according to abilities, above grade level, grade level, below, etc.
Could you tell if central office told them they had to stop offering ELC, or if they had the choice to keep ELC but chose not to? (Getting ready for my convo with our school and want to be prepared.)

There is still so much shuffling and uncertainty in CO and staffing for school based has not been given to principals. It would be hard for any school team to plan much for next school year with so much uncertainty.
But how will families be able to make decisions about whether to accept CES spots if they don't know what their home school will be doing for enrichment? Obviously some would pick CES no matter what, but others would prefer to stay at the home school if they know the child will be in ELC but maybe not if they are just getting some occasional pullout time...

+1 - my kid wrote SO much in ELC in 4th, not so much with CKLA

Anonymous wrote:Mine said they were doing “enriched CKLA” basically adding novel studies on. But it’s not clear that those kids will be in a separate cohort. I don’t care what curriculum they’re using honestly, I just want my kid to be in a group that moves quicker and doesn’t have to slow down because others are not yet there. I truly believe both slower learners and gifted kids need tailored supports. It helps no one to keep them all together

Families in this situation would need to get in touch with central office and their home school if the info has not come out yet at that point. Central office, however, may very well be timing this to provide info with the release of CES initial lottery results.
