My husband and I did it for roughly $6500 for our honeymoon. Doesn’t have to be balls to the wall.

It really depends on how much the air travel is. I posted up thread our trip to Rome which was not all all scrimping was 7K plus airline tickets.

And I think if you did something like Paris and then a train trip to a couple cheaper cities your money would go even further. Eating out in Europe is often cheaper than here especially because you don’t have to go to fancy places to get great food in most of Europe and attractions are so much cheaper than here. Even groceries have great bread and cheese and charcuterie type stuff.

On lodging I think you need to think hard about what you can afford and what your priorities are. I wouldn’t want to stay someplace very inconvenient but I don’t need a fancy room or “resort” amenities like restaurants in the hotel when I go to Europe.

In London we paid 4K for 8 nights in a 2 bedroom hotel room that was a Qp minute walk from the tube and a short tube ride to everything. That felt like a good balance to us. But our tickets were over 7K because we flew economy plus. If you can make do with economy flights, you have a LOT more room in your budget for fun stuff.

Also one other idea …. Is there any way you can get the SW companion passes? That would be great for California, Hawaii, Costa Rica, or Belize.

I would look at Costa Rica. You don't have to go to the beach (although you could, for a day or so if you wanted to).

And I'll second looking into a cruise to Alaska.

My data is a little old but we’ve done a few things on similar budget.

Alaska - Land based visit. Fly into Anchorage and then go Denali NP and down to Seward. Took a 7hr boat trip to see Fjords

Italy - Rome, Venice and Amalfi. Stayed in AirBnBs and Hotels. Travelled via train

Both trips were about 12 days and we got airline tickets early. Both trips came in under your budget.

One more tip, if you go to Europe using Iceland Air, you can have an extended layover in Iceland.
