While it isn't a wellness day it will probably feel like one for teachers!Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:The new WTU CBA includes "wellness days" for teachers which are days off without PD, etc.
Perhaps June 16 is one of those days?
I'm pretty sure it's is the teacher wellness day. It's ridiculous. Nobody wants a wellness day during the last week of school! Just end earlier!
You’re right, nobody wants a wellness day the last week of school. Which is why it isn’t. The wellness days are clearly posted on the calendar and if you bothered to read the thread you’d see it’s a primary Election Day.

Primaries are every other year and then alternate between first Tuesday and third Tuesday. 2024 was first Tuesday, 2022 was 3rd Tuesday.
The 21-22 calendar did not have primary day off. https://dcps.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/dcps/publication/attachments/SY21-22-Final-Calendars_English-032322.pdf

Of course there were primaries that year. 2022 is in the mayoral election cycle.
The Democratic primary in 2022 was June 21, after school was already out.

I remember because we held a banger of a bake sale at our school, which was a voting site.

Actually:
(a-1) The District of Columbia Public Schools system shall be closed to instruction on election day for District primary and general elections in order to facilitate voting in its facilities, beginning with the 2024 primary election.
They should have a PD day on November election days. As for this June primary, the year would be over if student days were reduced to 178 due to the removal of the 4 half student days that used to accompany the records days and/or reduced the PD days from 10 to 8.

+1
Either have a PD day or use rec centers as voting locations instead of schools. It is an absolutely ridiculous schedule to have a Monday, a day off, last day of school. This district is run by people who have no logic.
