The man is 88, if you're questioning why God lets people die, maybe look at the kids who die unnecessarily from hunger or preventable diseases.

That is exactly the point. By self soothing, man is able to see more clearly and choose the correct action.

Wrong!
Pneumonia is life threatening when you're 88 yrs old and it's in both lungs.

And he had part of his lung removed when he was young so pneumonia IS definitely life threatening when you're already compromised.
