We’re having one of the coldest Februarys in years. It’s hardly surprising that many people who would bike are finding other ways to get around at the moment.

But we are constantly told by by the bike bros that they ride in all weather, which is why we need the bike lanes. Which is it? At least be consistent with your arguments.

And DC never releases statistics for things that are failing, which is why you will *never* see statistics about the use of this bike lane (or, in this case, the non-use of this bike lane, which is empty 99.9 percent of the time).

DC has had bike lanes for 20 years. Funny how there's no data available.

Where I live, the bike lanes get used almost exclusively by food delivery people on bikes, scooters, and mopeds. They ride in all weather, no matter how hot or cold -- I find it quite amazing. I don't love bike lanes, but I am sympathetic to the food delivery people who work day in and day out, no matter the weather, to deliver people's food.

It did not just open in February……

Yesterday was February.

Read the thread.

Are you always this and insufferably pedantic? The thread is about the entire time it’s been open.

Or maybe DC residents can deal with the clear and present threat to their lives and lay down spike strips in front of speeding vehicles and defend themselves with bricks against vehicles running red lights? There is no place in the country where drivers have so gotten so out of control than in DC.

I know a cyclist who confronted a driver who did something or other. The driver beat the living shit out of the cyclist. He was in the hospital for almost a week. So, maybe don't do that.

NARRATOR: There was a grand total of *nine* Washingtonians killed by speeding drivers in the most recent year for which data is available. The daytime population of DC is one million people.

“Confiscation of residents’ parking spots?”

Entitled much?

I’m sorry to have to break the news, but those residents do not own the road space adjacent to their abodes and they have no established right to a parking space.

Moreover, every house on those blocks has a driveway and there is ample space on the other side of the street for parking.

Invoking all manner of hyperbole to drawn attention to your own sense of victimization works a lot better if you develop some real problems first.

You are insufferable.

My hope is one or more Trump Cabinet or EOP appointees live where they use that road and denounce it as woke so DC is forced to remove the lanes.

The number of bicyclists in DC has been shrinking for years. The League of American Bicyclists tracks biking in various cities. It says the number of Washingtonians riding bikes is down 28 percent since 2017.

The statistical illiterate is back at it again.

In reality, measures of bike usage in DC show rapid growth.

Anonymous wrote:No bikers but they need better signs/indicators on canal when lanes/traffic flows change. I’ve seen too many close call head on collisions recently.

Does anyone know who to contact about this? It’s typically the driver is coming over from Virginia or Maryland that don’t understand that middle lane is closed to incoming traffic.

There's a bike lane near us that I've never seen a single person use.
