I noticed how hard he slammed the van door in the Whole Foods footage where she was last seen. My guess is he found out somehow that she was talking to her ex.

Ooooh when she said she called her ex I was like, oh no, he'll find that. Yeah I bet that's why he murdered her.

Maybe the most shocking part of the documentary to me was the detailed interaction with the cops where they were thinking about charging her with battery when the witness clearly saw him battering her.

That was upsetting to me as well. I had seen a lot of the clips but watching the whole body cam from multiple officers was really eye-opening. Wasn't there one officer that seemed to have a better read, saying that statistically Gabby was in danger and unlikely to want to leave her abuser (thus explaining why she downplayed his assault)? And so what if he has scratches? She has marks too and a witness reported the assault, why wouldn't she be allowed to defend herself?

My biggest takeaway from the doc was how horrible Brian's parents were. I knew they were not cooperative, but it's hard to say how one would respond in the face of crisis. And with all the press and harassment from the public, maybe it isn't so far-fetched that you would lawyer up and refuse to talk. But omg those people were a-holes from the start! The way the officers were trying to talk them down, stay casual, and just get some crumb of information about a missing person whose life could be at stake, and the parents just kept refusing. I was glad to see the police take the van even though Brian's dad was like "oh, I think it's both of theirs." No, buddy, the cop can find out.

Also what's up with the Florida investigators putting off the New York police? "What do you want us to do? We wouldn't even file a report if we were in your place." ??? wtf??

Agreed on all your points. I wanted to scream at the TV listening to the law enforcement interactions. Are we really so woke that you are going to charge a girl with assault days before she's going to be a murder victim?

I have a teenager and we've been struggling with getting him to do stuff we ask. So I easily imagine being her parent and saying, hey hun, this thing with Brian. Can you just come home? I'll drop 4K for you to get on a plane, right now. Forget the van. We'll get it later. And Gabby saying - nope. I love Brian, I'm not leaving. Since she's an adult I can't do anything. Heartbreaking.

The real misogynists don't care about a pretty face.

They believe the white man.

+1 they will twist themselves into believing the woman is being manipulative and forced the man's hand.

She was 22. But this can happen in college as well, like with the University of Utah student killed by her ex boyfriend. Same apathetic police, family far away as well trying their best to figure out how to help and support a young adult child without overstepping. Of course abusers take advantage of young women not near family and isolate them further.

I had an abuse high school boyfriend lose his mind with a large kitchen knife in his hand when I was 16. I am 43 and still shudder to think of it. He stalked me for years after I managed to get out of the relationship. This can happen very young.

It’s all about money …. For the parents.

Cute, skinny young, white girl gets murdered by crazy boyfriend.

If she were brown and fat, this would not even be a question.

I wonder how it all happened, what really brought him to do the unthinkable. A stupid argument? And murder? How can a BF be so depraved, why not just end the relationship or trip.

I found it odd that the video is still published and that (they) are pushing for YouTube earnings

I thought this mention was really odd, like how great it was that she had gotten so many views! It sends the wrong message.

Didn't really like this doc. Not sure how to describe this but it felt off somehow. I'n not sure what it was about it. Once again though, geez, social media is fake as hell and pursuing a life or identify from it is such a mistake.

I felt very sorry for the parents.

I feel that way about most Netflix docs. Something a little crass and exploitative about them plus not very well-produced.

It makes me angry that they can continue their lives with no consequences. They are vile.

Another thing that struck me was the use of texting instead of communication. So much wasted time relying on written words, or waiting to hear a reply.
