My daughter is going to VCU, but looked at the programs at VA Tech and GMU. The creative technologies program at VA Tech seemed like an interesting program/lots of opportunities.

Iowa for creative writing isn’t the for sure choice. Its undergrad program is still pretty young (only started in 2016), and you aren’t getting the MFA faculty. Id say most undergrad creative writing lacs would be a stronger choice.

Another SUNY that may be worth considering (in addition to Purchase, which is more renowned for theater/acting and music performance) is New Paltz. It’s got a large contingency of creative types. Majors include graphic design and digital design.

FIT is another SUNY program, located in NYC. A lot of the focus is on fashion programs but some other ones too, like animation and graphic design.

I agree about Iowa for creative writing and VCU is strong in visual and some performing arts.

Beware that MICA is facing some financial difficulties.

Mass college of Art

Seconding Purchase College.

I would look at MICA in Baltimore, illustration is their biggest major and you have the ability to double major with creative writing, their humanities department is great. Though it is in Baltimore the campus itself is a little bubble within the city. Strong graphic design/product design departments as well. Private but they give out $$ so most do not pay full freight.

This is going to vary greatly by discipline. For creative writing it's Iowa. UVA and Boise State are good as well.
